my sketches are literally the worst they only make sense 2 me

my lines always end up like.. quite different from my sketch, this wasn't tooooo different but refs fiddled with the mechanics of the pose a bunch

i never do flat colours all at once but for the sake of this progress cap i did

new layer w/ clipping mask for painted shadows and highlights

here's where i decide it's too empty looking and this went from sketch to full background hell

finish the lines. less concerned with how neat these are as they're not the focal point of the shot.

flat colours on two layers, good to have a fill of some colour behind the bg colours just to fill it out and not leave any white in between

paint in some shadows, a few dark multiply and texture layers on the grindylow tank to give it some depth

some final colour edits and light source. mostly just a bunch of effects overlays and cheating, a little bit of hand painting but i'm v lazy so not a lot
